You have probably experienced, like most drivers, a close call just because you did not see someone riding in your blind spot. The blind spot is that area that is located just to the rear and to either side of your vehicle. Your mirrors do not pick up the reflection of the vehicle because it is out of their range. The Ford Blind Spot Information System utilizes sensors to pick up any vehicle that is within 10 feet of the back of your vehicle.

The most common way to check if there is a car back there is to look back quickly over your shoulder, but that is not the safest thing to do. With the Ford system, if a vehicle is detected, then a light flashes on your mirror. This allows you to continue to focus on the traffic that is ahead of you. When the mirror light stops flashing, you can execute your lane change or turn.
